columbus, ohio may not be spoken of in the same glowing terms as detroit when it comes to 90s techno from the mid-west. however, the columbus-based 21/22 corp label was responsible for some of future primitive s favourite techno from this era. we ve tracked down the multi-genre president and production manager behind 21/22 corp, charles noel, for our next release. formed of two exclusive productions, this archetype 12- is the essence of techno at its most individual.
ursprünglich ein herausragender album-track von charles bradleys changes longplayer damals mit dem titel you think i don t know (but i know) verwandeln axelrod und co. den soulgroover kunstvoll in einen frühen reggae-groover a la bunny lee. charles klagender gesang bietet eine schöne gegenüberstellung zum unbeschwerten bounce des inversion island beats. auf der rückseite befindet sich die dub-version mit dem titel-strike three, glücklicherweise konnte cb diese version hören, bevor er starb, und er sagte: ooooooo! i love it!

for the third volume of compilations curated by confirmed crate diggers, spacetalk invites you to take a trip to the magical mediterranean resort of club meduse in the company of beachfreaks records co-founder charles bals.
a creative director, designer and curator by trade, bals spends the majority of his spare time searching for superb, unknown, small-run music releases made between the 1970s and 1990s. while some of these are made available for other enthusiasts to buy via beachfreaks’ mail-order service, many more make it into the racks of bals’ private collection. with club meduse, bals is sharing rare, hard-to-find and just plain brilliant gems from his personal stash for the very first time.
for club meduse, bals was inspired by countless magic childhood summers spent playing amongst the rocks, beaches and warm seas of the cote d’azur. the compilation, then, is a soundtrack to the greatest soft-focus, sunlit teenage summer holiday you’ve never had, with a gaggle of forgotten musicians and overlooked artists for company.

a bastion of magnetic style and mixing board finesse, honey dijon continues to exceed her bounds, pushing through from the underground of new york to become a cultural, global star. her classic follow-up to houze with seven david jnr, the provocative personal slave is unapologetic, hedonist and achingly cool. honey has teamed up with charles duff aka charles mccloud, who lends his seductively sulky tones for the vocal on the record. murky and mechanical, cowbell dinks and a percussive breakdown lift the mood, keeping the tracks feet firmly in the house bracket. consistently, honey’s productions piece together her familiar chicago jack with a contemporary new york edge. this track goes further in exploring that hybrid style, delivered with honeys signature lushness. a strong force in the us techno scene under his matrixxman moniker, charles duff appears again for remix duties on the dungeon dub, which as the name suggests is profoundly dark and moody, resonating highly with his regular slots at berghain. the drum machine mix hones in on the percussive work, playing with a visceral, hypnotic vibe that is so potent its almost dangerous. if this release is any indication of honeys intentions for this year, 2017 will see honey continue her ascension as a music icon.
we are seemingly headed towards dark and confusing times. the tension inside of the people is rising so instead of putting more gasoline to the fire and fueling the rage i submit to you these sounds of peace. not black music or white music. not borders or class. just music. it’s time to stop labeling music, just as it is time to stop labeling humans as 1st class and 2nd class citizens. if you can ignore my broken voice and if you could only look past my music’s imperfections, you would feel me instead of hearing me and maybe then you could get a small glimpse of the hope that the people feel when they are at my concerts and understand the idea that many great men and women before me like bob marley and john lennon had, that we are all one. the idea that had brought hope and countless others. the hope that makes them scream: peace forever. (charles x)
for the past four decades, a growing cult of soul music collectors have sought two obscure lps and a handful of extremely rare 45s released on the vanity record label lad productions, inc. between the late seventies and the mid eighties by the mysterious south side chicago singer/song writer larry dixon. larry s raw songs capture the transition from r&b to boogie-down as disco was rapidly becoming extinct. they also perfectly illustrate larrys ability to overcome his environment and discrimination, transcended by his determination to write and produce music. with the support of his faithful musicians, larry s success was only hindered by lack of airplay and promotion, but his talent shines through. this is the story of larry dixon, his label lad productions, inc., and his friends and family throughout four decades of music in chicagos toughest neighborhoods. jerome derradji is proud to reactivate past due records the boogie funk division of still music to release this fantastic archive what many consider to be the holy grail of chicago funk, boogie and soul.
