a creative director, designer and curator by trade, bals spends the majority of his spare time searching for superb, unknown, small-run music releases made between the 1970s and 1990s. while some of these are made available for other enthusiasts to buy via beachfreaks’ mail-order service, many more make it into the racks of bals’ private collection. with club meduse, bals is sharing rare, hard-to-find and just plain brilliant gems from his personal stash for the very first time.

down in scenic auckland, new zealand, tucked in a small basement studio, musician leonard charles & his friends paid tribute to dilla s landmark release by re-recording the entire 31-track album on live instruments. charles gives the tracks a modern funk reinterpretation on live bass, drums, clavinet, rhodes & synths - sans any sampling of the original source or sourced material. featuring vocals by anji toy, adi dick, ruby walsh and georgia anne muldrow on the emotional tribute airworks (forever).

after a short break in releases, plastik people are back with the third installment of the various people. we see label owner marc cotterell up first with his slice of 90 s house music, incorperating slick grooves and catchy cut up vocals, along side mark on side a, a new addition to the plastik people family from london, charles caliber, who graces the ep with a stunning soulful house groove called moving on. on the flip side nyc artist doug gomez brings us a classic sounding, deep head nodding track which was originally releases on frole records and we loved it so much that we decided it needed a vinyl releases, to round off the release, we are very pleased to have mikki funk back on plastik people. he delivers us a splendid cut of uk garage, mikki funk has also previously released on rm records and music is love.
this brand new full-length offering from “the screaming eagle of soul” features his critically acclaimed rendition of black sabbath’s “changes”. the vinyl release includes a download code.
